This Erasmus+ funded EU project will study the sustainability and circular economy status quo of the India and Thailand and the creation of a ‘digital sustainability and circular economy’ knowledge-based capacity building centre that will support the development and dissemination of knowledge in circular economy and sustainable development in partner universities in India and Thailand.

The knowledge developed will primarily meet the requirement of not only the universities of these two countries but also many other countries of the region/similar economic growth as they follow similar approaches in their business practices.

The project aims to address the limited knowledge and tools in the sustainability and circular economy domain, capacity building of universities and prospective manpower in India and Thailand (emerging markets framework will be helpful to many), and dissemination through digital technology to help these faculty and students learn the concepts with no financial loading that facilitate the knowledge transition to more sustainable practices.

European universities have built this knowledge and capabilities over last 2 decades and these will play a prominent role in helping Asian universities build their capacity and capabilities in the proposed areas.

Project Outcomes:

HEIs will develop capacity in the sustainability and circular economy domain with enhanced knowledge, trained faculty members and researchers, developed courses and certificates and a digital centre to disseminate the resources.

1. HEIs will develop their sustainability capabilities by teaching concepts of circular economy, which will enable students to learn about these concepts, develop understanding to practices, become more sensitive to new methods and sustainability requirements.

2. Project develops and design innovative methods of learning and teaching related to sustainability and circular economy to upgrade existing curricula and to promote undergraduate, graduate, and faculty & researchers, and business professionals in sustainability domain such as energy, waste management etc in urban and rural settings to understand concepts of sustainability and circular economy.

3. Partners from India and Thailand will act as digital centre in a hub model but will apply/follow the dissemination of resources to other less resourceful colleges and universities from 2nd and 3rd tier cities to promote enhancement.

4. Programs and elements of continuing education will be constructed to enhance the quality and manpower of sustainability and circular economy competencies to reskill and upskill employees.

5. An Indian and Thai digital-Hub is created for each partner university to support the development of a circular economy education. Each hub houses university staff who assist in developing the further resources with updated knowledge of the circular economy and upskill faculty and staff.

The three-year project (2024-2026) will be a collaboration with the following universities:

University of Jyväskylä – Jyväskylän yliopisto @(Finland)

FH JOANNEUM (Austria)

BIMTECH-Birla Institute of Management Technology (India)

Nirma University Ahmedabad (India)

Prince of Songkla University (Thailand)
